PeaceWaves finds its origin in the idea to create a network of schools, local bodies, Provinces, student councils, associations, after five years (1996 - 2001) hard but informal work about issues as peace, citizenship, legality, international co-operation, human rights, sustainable development, management and mediation, conflict resolutions and globalisation from below, decided on 05 June 2001 to build an NGO so-called PeaceWaves.tyle="margin-left: 2pt; margin-right: 2pt;">PeaceWaves is an "International Education Community" and includes all the schools in the world that have promoted an "Education Olympic Program" or other specific programs on the above mentioned issues.

PeaceWaves programs are inter-generational and have a strong attachment with the local communities. The 50% of the organisation is composed by young people between 14 and 26 years of age.

The great opportunity offered by Olympic Games of Torino 2006 made the project more actual and challenging.
The first Peacewaves action was the redaction of Education Program for Torino 2006, besides a Program for "Provincia di Torino" - program intended to spread and disseminate both the culture of peace and the image and substance of the Olympic Event itself. The headquarter of PeaceWaves was established in Torino to better follow the Olympic event.

Another action promoted by PeaceWaves has been the partnership with the Committee of local Bodies (CNEELL) and the Peace Table for the diffusion of the project "My school for Peace".

The aim of PeaceWaves is to ensure that each school - both students and teachers - has the chance to be involved in the Olympic Games and to enlarge their training opportunities and their own curriculum thanks to specific activities, in particular concerning the Olympic Truce considered not only as a suspension from on-going conflicts but the re-opening of the negotiation considered closed or impossible, but mostly as metaphor of conflicts mediation and sustainable development, for a more responsible freedom and for a citizenship more respectful of nations, people and differences.

A technical - scientific committee composed by experts on training, learning processes, human rights and democratisation and citizenship, will provide:

· To train the trainers
· To check the programs and to facilitate the take participation of the education community by offering assistance and consultancy
· To monitor the planning process
· To check and evaluate the out-puts
· To check the competencies attained

This will allow all the subjects involved in the project not only to participate more consciously to the Olympic event but also deepen their knowledge of human rights, to realise concrete peace actions and to diffuse a culture of peace.

PeaceWaves purposes are the promoting of Peace and the respect of Human Rights through Art and Sport (our slogan is SPORT & ART FOR PEACE).
For this goal we have realized various projects in Italy and abroad. 

Our greater successes are (1) the Italian courses for Ambassadors of Peace (courses for young people about peace, human rights, justice, etc), in particular the Team Leader course planned for the training and formation of the Turin Olympic and Paralympic Games Volunteers, and (2) our project for the reconstruction of the Afghan Education System, particularly the opening of a girl’s school of music in Kabul and many sport schools in the whole Afghan territory.

Our purposes and projects for the future are:
- to continue our courses of Ambassadors of Peace;
- organizing the Youth Session during the Perugia session of the UN of Peoples;
- managing the International exhibition of the paints of the “Kids’ Guernica” project for the period January 2004 – March 2006
